LETTER: Dear community, please help the homeless in Krugersdorp

'Krugersdorp, please listen to your hearts and help me to help them, things have to change!'

I come across homeless and helpless people every single day and it breaks my heart to see these human beings suffer this way all because they made a wrong choice or a wrong turn in their life! Should their wrong choice or wrong turn bring such a harsh and final death sentence to their lives by living like this?

These people sleep on the street or in a veld night upon night, with no food, no bathroom facility, no blanket, and no hope because it seems that not anyone cares.

I understand that the majority of these people are drug users and as they are addicted, they need more drugs and end up losing everything in the process sadly, including their IDs, clothing, etc! Where do they start to get help, is my question? Can they go to a house for a nice hot bath? Will they get food there? Will they get judged and rejected? Is there someone there who will facilitate the rehabilitation process? Where will they go for medicine without an ID? Who will prescribe and give them much-needed psychiatric medicine without an ID?

These are some of the needs for a homeless and helpless person and yet these poor people have to deal with conditions that not even some animals can handle!

The people are human beings who deserve the same rights as everyone else! The problem is right in front of their eyes and yet they ignore it! How does one go home to a roof over their head, with food and a warm bath knowing that there are people on the street without that?

Krugersdorp, please listen to your hearts and help me to help them, things have to change!
