OPINION: SA needs visionary leadership

'What SA needs is visionary leadership that will take our nation to the land of milk and honey. That's all' – resident.

• Thabile Mange writes:

SA has no political problem, it has a leadership problem. Our country is in an economic, social, spiritual, and unemployment problem because of poor leadership.

Interestingly, it seems like every politician wants to be a leader – and few are prepared to submit under party leadership. When they resign from their political parties, they start new ones. Examples abound.

When Julius Sello Malema was fired from the ANC, he started the EFF. The red berets are celebrating 10 years of existence this year. They target and attract radical black youth.

In his second year as Joburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba resigned from the DA and started the ActionSA. Mashaba’s party is seen as the DA light because many of its members are from the official opposition. It is liberal in its outlook and less radical.

Mmusi Maimane resigned from the DA almost at the same time as Mashaba. Many thought the two were going to join forces and form one party. Maimane has since started his political party called Bosa.

The former Midvaal Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, left the DA for ActionSA. Baloyi was the ActionSA leader in Gauteng. He later resigned, saying Mashaba is a dictator. He then started a new political party.

A few weeks ago, the ANC expelled its former secretary general Elias “Ace” Magashule. According to media reports, Magashule is intending to start his political party. His support base is in the Free State.

The pertinent question is: do we need all these political parties? The answer is “No”. What SA needs is visionary leadership that will take our nation to the land of milk and honey. That’s all.
