LETTER: Resident frustrated by water woes in Krugersdorp

'Load-shedding has become somewhat bearable because there’s a schedule to prepare us, but this water issue remains indefinite. A water issue like this can cause major health repercussions for the poor and the lower class civilians, further flooding the healthcare system' – resident.

There is a widening gap stemming from classism in Mogale city.

It’s been a tough two weeks especially for the residents of Munsieville. Munsievillians have had their water supply completely cut off while the neighbouring areas of Dan Pienaarville, Rant-en-Dal and Chancliff have experienced predominantly decreased water pressure. These residential areas are still getting the water just not as swiftly; a huge difference compared to the Munsieville struggle.

The coming-in party has found itself cleaning up the mess of the previous party and yes the fact remains: it’s a mess! But why not ration out issues fairly to your residents?

Seeing my fellow South Africans, registered voters, mothers and their children waking up at dawn to cross the reckless-driver beset Van Riebeeck Road just to fetch a bucket of water at the Dan Pienaar reservoir when in fact they already have a reservoir in Munsieville doesn’t make sense.

Worse, Munsieville residents have to wait impatiently for an unreliable water truck, then queue up at unannounced times and unannounced locations like one would at a soup kitchen. Witnessing this has left me gut-wrenched.

Load-shedding has become somewhat bearable because there’s a schedule to prepare us, but this water issue remains indefinite. A water issue like this can cause major health repercussions for the poor and the lower class civilians, further flooding the healthcare system. This is government neglect at is cruellest.
