LETTER: Let’s unite and support each other as business-people

Various speakers emphasised unity during the CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT Township Economy launch in Chief Mogale Hall in Kagiso.

• Raliphi ‘Master Push’ Xolelizwe from Chief Mogale writes:

Representative of small businesses in Kagiso recently expressed broad satisfaction with the CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT’s economic policies following a two-day meeting with the local business owners.

The CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT Township Economy launch in Chief Mogale Hall in Kagiso came on August 17 – a week when much attention was paid to the gang rape of eight women in West Village in July.

The event was organised mainly for the Kagiso residents, and it was well-marketed, especially on social media. However, most of the people who attended came from other areas such as Katlehong, Daveyton and Mamelodi.

There were various speakers emphasising unity.

According to business development manager Karabo Yumba who was also a programme director of the day at Chief Mogale Hall the meeting was aimed at exploring ways to accelerate economic growth and development.

It also sought to ensure open and constructive communication between CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT, government and large corporations.

A representative of local businesses indicated that they were broadly satisfied with the CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT’s pillars such as group economy, economic redistribution, educational transformation and community development. While there are issues that will continue to be discussed and negotiated in detail in actual implementation, there is a broad agreement on the direction of economic policy and economic programmes.

Presentations were also made by representatives from Family Free, Selo Setsha (Pty) Ltd and Lethabo General Dealers to mention a few.

The message of the day was loud and clear: Let’s unite and support each other as business people.

CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT is a non-profit organisation not driven by political forces. Its chairperson Karabo Mosetlhe announced the members of its executive committee and board. The executive committee members are Karabo Mosethle (chairperson), Thabis Samuel Mosadi (chairperson) and Tshenolo Leburu (Secretary). The board members are Boyce Siphika, Mzi Sithole, Donald Xolile Molefe and Thami Khuzwayo.

Members of the public were also offered a platform to pose questions to the committee members. The CHOKO FIVE MOVEMENT tends to be mainly supply-driven, hence the revitalisation, reconfiguration, repositioning and re-branding of existing programmes is a common feature.
