Please leave a message

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Very few things in life is as frustrating as, “We cannot take your call, please leave a message”.

Imagine calling God in an emergency and hearing these words, “Cannot take your call now, please leave your details and I will call you when I get a chance”. Or maybe God is on holiday and you must phone Saint Peter or Paul.

It is crazy. We expect God never to be too busy to hear our prayer and jump to our demands.

But I wonder how God feels when He would like to spend a bit of time with you and you are too busy. Too busy to read your Bible, too busy to spend a few minutes with Him. Too busy to go to church or help someone in distress.

Spouses too busy to work on their marriage. Parents too busy to spend time with their children.

Yes, we are all busy, schedules and deadlines have to be met. Sacrifices must be made by all of us.

But I wonder when last have you prioritised an hour or so to be with God? No agenda, no list of wants. Just quietly sitting at God’s feet.

“But, Pastor, you don’t understand how busy I am. I don’t have time to just sit.”

In conclusion. If you are in a hurry and you have a long trip ahead of you, make time to fill the car’s tank. If you don’t, you won’t get to your destination. If you don’t make time for God, you may not reach your destination either.
