Forgiveness sets you free

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

In formal and informal interactions one issue often comes up. Many people have issues with blood relatives, parents, siblings and other family members.

At funerals we have a great opportunity to see family members.

Don’t feel guilty. It is commonplace today. One of the reasons people don’t visit with their family members is time. We are just too busy. Then there are conflict situations. Family feuds. It is amazing for how long people can carry grudges. Here Christians may blush. Yes, even good, Bible-reading, church-going individuals can carry grudges for a lifetime. In fact, you may think that the grave ends grudges, but it is frightening to know that many people still carry grudges against dead people.

What is the cure for grudges? Forgiveness. What are the results of forgiveness? Freedom.

It has been medically proven that grudges can have real effects on one’s health. It is true that bitterness can cause serious physical and mental illness.

Matthew 6:14, “For if you forgive men when they have sinned against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you”.

Forgive, don’t wait for a funeral.
