Rugby World Cup

Pastor Gerrit Mes – "As you face your personal challenges, don’t focus just on the moment".

For all the faithful rugby enthusiasts, this is so exciting. Will we once again be crowned world champions? Many of the Springboks are household names, heroes and legends.

It is always emotional for me to hear the national anthems. Then the whistle blows and we have the kick-off.

We watch 80 minutes of rugby, often with little or no appreciation for the years of hard work and personal sacrifice each player has put into just these 80 minutes. Most of the 30 people on the field started playing rugby at a very young age. Not hundreds, but thousands of hours of blood, sweat and, yes, tears for the following 80 testing, trying minutes that will determine the 2019 world champions.

As you face your personal challenges, don’t focus just on the moment. Look back over a lifetime of trials and tribulations that have helped shape you for this battle.

No matter what it is – a divorce, bankruptcy, or cancer – God has prepared each one of us in the gym of life to overcome the giant you face today. No cross, no crown. No pain, no glory. To lift the trophy takes more than 80 minutes.

To beat your giant, remember your battles of yesteryear.
