I believe but…

Pastor Gerrit Mes – from the pulpit.

Christians base so much on their faith. In fact, sometimes I feel the real issue is that some people have faith in their faith. If only I have enough faith, I know God will answer my prayers.

I have – I think – found something as powerful as faith, honesty.

A story from my Sunday School days that still captivates me is one of a man that had faith, but …

Mark 9:24, “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief!”

Talking faith, acting faith is not faith. This man was honest enough to admit, that at times, his heart has doubts.

As you face your giants, you need faith. Not faith in faith, but faith in God. You are human and you may experience moments of doubt. It is then that honesty is as powerful as faith. Admitting to God that you have doubts does not disqualify you. In fact, your honesty may be the key to your miracle.

Saying I am scared, or I am weak, is not a negative confession if it is the truth. Saying I am not scared or I am not weak, if it is not the truth, is a lie.

A little verse that you can keep as a powerful mantra is, “When I am weak, I am strong.” It is when we know that we are weak that we rely less on ourselves and more on him.

It is not a sin to have doubts.
