Mr. Fix It

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Nobody knows me better than my wife. If you had to ask her about my characteristics I am sure she will say, “He is Mr. Fix It”. I love fixing things, trying to solve problems.

Ninety per cent of my dreams are about fixing problems. Be it electrical, plumbing, the car or people.

For example, my mechanic friends have taught me that if a car won’t start, it is one of two things: fuel or electrical. No matter how much effort and money I use to start my car, if the problem is an empty tank, a new battery won’t solve the problem.

Over the years in ministry I have been asked to help people deal with the challenges in their marriages. Most of the challenges people face in their marriages are universal. We are struggling with the same issues, more or less.

From years of trying to help people, I am sad to admit that many times people fail to resolve domestic issues because they are not finding the problem.

So off they go to marriage guidance. But often it is not even a marriage problem. Often it is an unresolved historical problem that is not being addressed.

All of us have some baggage. It is often the baggage that causes challenges in a relationship. If the tank is empty, fill it. Very often the solution to life’s challenges are simpler than we think. A happy marriage is not rocket science.

If both of you want the same thing, God can help you to work together, not against each other. You can fix it.
