Family, friends and faith

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

By the time you read this article, Christmas will be forgotten and new year’s day will be just another day long ago. For some, it is as if they never even had a holiday.

Holidays and days of rest are essential – even God rested on the seventh day. One drawback is the difficulty of getting back into some type of routine. Priorities and emergencies chase us so that we can lose sight of the important things in life, things like family, friends and faith.

Every one of us has the same amount of hours in a day, 24. Every one of us has 7 days in a week. We can fill these hours and days with things that are important to us. The tragedy for many is that near the end of life, when they look back, they see that many of the things that did not get much attention were actually the most important in the long run. So we must make time for family, friends and faith. Not only do they deserve space in your diary, they give joy beyond measure.

A little verse seldom preached on by our famous TV evangelists makes us think about our priorities. Matthew 16: 26 says, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?” Or, “What can a man give in exchange for his soul?”

Looking at your diary, it is easy to see where your heart is. Make a good start to the year by making time for family, friends and faith.
