This month, 36 years ago, the then editor of the Krugersdorp News, David Raath, asked me to write a single New Year’s message for the newspaper.
The next week I received another call, “One more article please”. As they say, the rest is history. So I wish to welcome our whole community to the new year, 2019.
I wish that I had the ability to look into a crystal ball and reveal to you the future or maybe, like in the East, look at the tea leaves in the bottom of the cup revealing the future. Living in Africa, maybe throwing bones will help. Most faiths try to somehow reveal the future, except Christianity. In fact, the Bible says we can’t know the future. This can create uncertainty that leads to fear that triggers stress. Anxiety and insecurities and these conditions may be at the heart of many of our modern-day illnesses.
But does the Bible give us any advice about the future to calm our fears and give us peace? Yes, the Bible is clear about how we should approach 2019.
Matt 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
It is not that important what the new year holds. The important issue is, who holds the future. Today you can choose to trust God. Give Him tomorrow and enjoy the adventure.
