They say it never rains but it pours

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

I find it so amazing, more than coincidence, that when something goes wrong, other things also go wrong. I recently visited a friend fighting the battle of all battles, cancer. As I sat listening to his story, I saw a light. His body is riddled with pain and his mind is overactive, and he was losing the battle. Everything and everyone on every side had become part of the problem.

How do you fight your greatest battle while there are lots of little battles all around? Then I thought of a verse in the Bible. It says that if the devil wants to rob us, he first ties us up. So my advice to my friend and to you is this – don’t fight the devil while your hands are tied behind your back. First get untied, then focus on the one battle in front of you.

You may ask, “How do I do that?” It’s simple – get rid of the anger, hatred, jealousy and unforgiveness in your heart. Let go of the people who have hurt you, disappointed you, and betrayed you.

This man took my advice and made peace with the people around him.

A few days later, one of the other pastors visited the same man in hospital. His amazement was expressed as soon as he got back to the office. “He looks so much better!” he said.

If you want to beat your giant enemy, first ask God to untie you by making peace with others. Then focus on the real enemy.
