More churches

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Two very prominent landmarks in South Africa are malls and churches. Malls pop up all over the place between Krugersdorp and Pretoria. They are so visible. The same shops, but lots of new malls all the time.

In our little town we also see new churches popping up all over. Almost on a weekly basis new churches appear in the city centre and in residential areas.

It is great news for our community to see all these places of worship, but is there a downside or some hidden danger?

Each of the malls competing for our business has to offer things that will attract us and our disposable income.

Could it be that the churches could be tempted to compromise and even betray their original values to attract potential members?

Today you can choose a church to suit your own needs. If you like noise, you can choose a noisy church. Maybe you prefer a quiet form of worship. Plenty of those around to choose from and if your taste changes with time, you can find a new church. A church is more than a building or even people. A church is a family, God’s family. Going to church must be about God, not us.

PS: “Forsake not the gathering together of believers.”
