Winter

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

Of the four seasons, winter is probably not the best for many of us. It is cold and grey and dark.

Autumn has a charm about it with its multitude of colours. Spring bursts with new life. And the summer is fun. But truth be told, the winter may be more important than some of us think.

With fewer distractions, we are forced to slow down. Family around the fireplace. Hot soup and fresh bread, just what we need. Touching base with loved ones, enjoying quality time making memories. If you are in the midst of winter, stop for a moment and count the blessings of your yesteryears, and take time to plan for all your tomorrows.

Maybe take a pen and paper and write down new goals, dreaming of new adventures. Maybe take time to talk to God about life, tell Him all your joys and your pain.

Before we know it, spring will be here, then the frantic rush of summer.

God made winter for rest and recuperation – “R&R”. He made it for pondering and planning. God designed winter to slow us down, to make us appreciate all our many, many blessings.

Don’t forget, a season is just that – a season. Soon the days will become longer, the weather warmer and spring will bring with it lush greens, flowers, fruit and the sound of new life in the animal kingdom.

Don’t waste the winter, it is important.
