My greatest regret

You are not a child of the universe, you are a child of God.

Well, maybe not my biggest regret but definitely one of my biggest regrets – growing up.

Being a child is in a way such a special time. Life was so simple. Little things meant so much.

A child can look into a mirror, pull faces and laugh. A simple candle in a dark room, throwing shadows onto a wall. Pure innocent fun. Trusting and faith came so naturally. My dad would throw me high up into the air, and catch me in his strong, secure arms. Faith in God was so easy and so natural.

Somehow society robbed me of all the above. Today I have to be entertained because I have lost the ability to entertain myself.

Little things like shadows from my hands on a wall seem silly. I have been told not to trust anyone. Strangers are dangerous. And God, well, society has confused my faith trying to convince me that I am an accident, the result of millions of years of evolution.

My existence is the direct result of time, matter and space. Nobody created me, nobody loves me and when I die, no one will be waiting for me.

Like you, I long for the simplicity and sincerity of a child’s heart.

Jesus Christ once spoke to a crowd and said the following, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a child, will never enter it.” Mark 10:15.

Truth be told, in every one of us is a child trying to survive. You are not a child of the universe, you are a child of God. Amen.
