Kindness costs nothing

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

I have learnt the secret of getting great service. Yes, just a little thing that anyone can do will improve the service you get in any institution. Be nice!

People that work with the public face abuse all day, every day. So when someone arrives with a nice, friendly attitude, they may resist for a moment, but then you will get great service. Be nice.

Luke 6:31, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

It works at the local municipal offices, the police station, SARS and even your local restaurant. Be nice.

But don’t just do it because you want better service, do it because maybe that person needs a break.

Being nice can bridge the gulf between racial groups, age groups and even political rivals.

Being nice can help you in your marriage, with your kids and maybe even with your in-laws. Some wise words from Proverbs 4:1–2 say: “A gentle answer quietens anger, but a harsh one stirs it up. When wise people speak, they make knowledge attractive, but stupid people spout nonsense,” while verse 4 says, “Kind words bring life, but cruel words crush your spirit.”

Being kind costs nothing and promises great and eternal rewards.

Be nice today!
