Thank you Mogale City for acting fast

Willem Naudé from Chancliff writes:

In the early morning of Friday 6 May the mini-substation on the corner of Clifford Street and Warwick Road, Chancliff, was opened on top, the oil was drained, the transformer box was opened and the transformer was removed by thieves.

This must have been done by people who knew exactly what they were doing and how to do it.

The consumers did notice two power dips a night or two before the theft and it should be reported in future as an indication of another potential theft.

Luckily the municipality’s electricity department took action and had the transformer replaced by noon the same day.

This was a big surprise and relief for the consumers. They want to thank everyone from the electricity department that made a plan and worked non-stop to bring relief before the weekend.

In particular, thanks to superintendent Charles van Rensburg and his team that really showed their commitment to the consumers, who saved lots of money as they did not have to run generators to keep fridges cold over the weekend.

We also want to thank the acting department head George Malotane, standing in for Frikkie Erasmus, for their excellent service during other construction in the area and during the hail storm.
