West Village is a neglected area

Chris Schoonwinkel from West Village writes:

I am a new resident in the neglected town of West Village. I use the term neglected because there can be no doubt that this area is grossly neglected by the Mogale City Municipality as far as roads, general maintenance of parks etc are concerned. I have been fighting with them about things such as a simple rubbish bin for some time now.

However, the most pressing problem to which I have not been able to get a satisfactory answer is the issue of street lights not working. I have heard various stories of an independent electricity supplier and of electrical infrastructure that has to be upgraded etc, none of which make sense to me. As far as I can see the infrastructure is there in the form of poles and lights. The only conclusion I could come to was that of costs, which also does not make sense as I am convinced that the residents will be happy to pay a small fee either added to their municipal accounts or to the cost of prepaid electricity to get this working.

As is, West Village is a haven for drug dealers and other undesirable elements. Working street lights would go a long way towards alleviating this problem.

I really would appreciate if this matter could be dealt with on behalf of the residents of West Village so that we could get to the bottom of this.

Surely we are not living in the dark ages anymore and I believe that even townships like Kagiso and Munsieville at least have street lights or flood lights.
