Curro Krugersdorp Primary celebrates National Arbor Week

Curro Krugersdorp invites the greater community to make the town a greener place with a focus on National Arbor Week.

Curro Krugersdorp Primary School embarked on an initiative to plant 300 trees all in celebration of National Arbor Week (August 29 to September 4).

According to the government [https://www.gov.za/ArborWeek2024], the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), as the custodian of forestry in the country, is responsible for the campaign. Arbor Week aims to promote and create a better life for all.

On September 2, the school alongside its learners and the Representative Parent Committee (RPC) gathered at the sports field to plant what would be the first of hundreds of trees for the rest of the year.

According to Curro’s marketer Amoryn Wright, the school is aiming to plant 300 trees by the end of the 2024 school year and would like to ask for the assistance of parents in making this a successful project. Most of the trees will be planted in the area surrounding the school, namely the embankments and on the sports fields.

“We have a dedicated team that will be planting the trees for us preparing the holes, planting the trees and then adding tree rings around each tree to protect them from the lawnmowers. Grounded Landscaping has allocated beautiful indigenous trees for this project that will benefit our school’s ecosystem and extend the Botanical Garden that is right next door, into our soon-to-be school forest. Our children will be involved in the tree planting project and each class will partake in the planting of trees, teaching them the importance of planting trees and making them involved in the project.”

She added the trees that will be planted will be big, beautiful and strong.

“Our landscaping team will make sure the holes are well-prepped to ensure that the trees thrive. Each tree will be an investment of R500 which will cover all costs of planting the tree on our school property and adding a protective tree ring around each tree. The school would like to encourage each family to sponsor a tree to this project, it will not only benefit children, but thousands of children that will journey through our school in the years to come,” she concluded.
