Cops visit two schools to prioritise safety

Police and stakeholders are prioritising safety in schools and visited two local schools recently.

The Kagiso Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit collaborated with 13 other police stations on the West Rand, members of the office of the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Department of Education and Community Safety Patrollers and visited Lodirile High School in Swaneville recently.

The aim was to conduct searches as part of a programme that prioritises safety in schools.

According to Kagiso police’s Brigadier Nyelisani Mabatha, the school is among a few schools in Kagiso that were identified as having serious social challenges like gangsterism, bullying, violence, and juvenile delinquency.

During the searches, law enforcement found knives as well as caps and hats not appropriate to the school uniform.

The team thereafter proceeded to Tsakani Primary School in central Kagiso where they addressed learners on numerous social issues including abuse, sexual harassment, cyberbullying, kidnapping and child trafficking.

“The programme is important in educating learners and teachers on how they can play a part in crime prevention,” Mabatha said.
