Owners urged to vaccinate their pets against rabies

The 2024 Rabies Vaccination Programme has been launched across the West Rand.

Although there was an outbreak of rabies on the West Rand in the past, it was contained very quickly. However, one can never be too cautious.

Councillor Shenan Cochrane in the Muldersdrift area said recently, state vets launched the 2024 Rabies Vaccination Programme for dogs and cats in the district.

The team is currently busy in the Muldersdrift area but will move to Hekpoort, Magalies, Tarlton, Krugersdorp, Munsieville and Kagiso thereafter.

“We encourage all dog and cat owners to take advantage of this important vaccination programme which is free of charge,” she excitedly said.

“Rabies vaccinations should be administered annually to ensure adequate protection. Please ensure your pets are vaccinated against other viruses, including Parvo and Distemper. Our thanks to local venues such as Bidon Bistro and Puma who have accommodated the team,” she added.

The confirmed dates and locations are the following:
• 22 August – Oaktree petrol station from 09:30
• 22 August – Pikoko Hole in One in Ruimsig from noon
• 28 August – West Village voting station from 10:00

An update will be published when more dates and locations have been confirmed.

Once at the location, Shenan advised, “On arrival please keep your pets in your car or on a lead until you are assisted.”
