A purr-fect new start at animal rescue

An animal rescue centre received a considerable donation from Jacaranda's Good Morning Angels initiative.

Following unfortunate circumstances which eventually led to three of their animals being harmed and left for dead, an animal rescue centre in Hekpoort revealed there is new hope.

The Krugersdorp News reported recently how two dogs and a pig were found massacred at the Paws and Purrs rescue centre.

Following the tragedy, the organisation required much-needed help to get their enclosures repaired and veterinary bills taken care of. However, thanks to Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels initiative, a donation of more than R100 000 was made to four different animal sanctuaries with Paws and Purrs among them.

Good Morning Angels not only stepped in to assist them by donating R3 000 worth of blankets but also R10 000 for food and medical needs for the animals.

According to the centre’s director, Lexi Lines, the rescue centre was founded in 2022. Since then it has rescued and cared for more than 250 animals. The centre also provides services such as sterilisation and deworming for their animals to ensure that they are healthy and ready once they get adopted by a new family. The centre also relies on volunteers to assist them in feeding and ensuring the safety of their beloved four-legged friends.

Other West Rand-based organisations that were assisted include Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) who faced a tragedy of their own recently when 14 of their dogs were poisoned in their kennels. Despite frequent checks by Fora personnel and their security company, 12 dogs were found dead, and two more were rushed to the vet.

To help Fora recover and enhance their security, the Good Morning Angels Fund donated R30 000. This will aid with the costs of security cameras, extra fencing, and other necessary measures to keep their animals safe.
