Teddy Bear Foundation’s water leak fixed thanks to Hot Cares and Silverstar

Hot 102.7FM's Hot Cares and Silverstar's Pay It Forward made a difference by paying for the repair work involving a water leak at the Teddy Bear Foundation's Krugersdorp branch.

The Hot Cares non-profit organisation and Silverstar recently assisted the Teddy Bear Foundation’s Krugersdorp branch by fixing an underground water leak.

Hot Cares project co-ordinator Andy Swanepoel said the Teddy Bear Foundation is a remarkable NGO dedicated to providing holistic services to abused children and their families.

“For 38 years, the foundation has been a beacon of hope, ensuring that vulnerable children receive the care and support they need without any financial burden,” Andy said.

The Teddy Bear Foundation, under the leadership of Dr Shaheda Omar, operates across multiple locations, including hospitals and magistrate courts, and assists over 5 302 children annually.

“Their services are crucial in guiding and protecting children as they navigate the justice system, offering a vital ‘journey to healing.”

She added the foundation’s Krugersdorp branch faced a significant challenge due to an underground water leak, resulting in an enormous, unbudgeted bill of R9 000 and despite receiving a generous donation from a plumber to repair the leak, the financial strain of the outstanding bill threatened to impact their tight budget and essential services.

“HOT 102.7FM [the radio station which runs the community upliftment initiative Hot Cares] recognised the invaluable work of the foundation and immediately reached out to Silverstar, who deeply understood the foundation’s importance in assisting children who have suffered abuse,” Andy said.

Pay It Forward, a charity initiative by Silverstar has generously agreed to cover the unexpected cost of R9 000, ensuring that the foundation can continue its operations smoothly without diverting funds from critical services.

“In addition to covering the water bill, Hot Cares will be providing care packs for the children who visit the centre to receive much-needed help, further demonstrating their commitment to supporting the foundation’s efforts.”
