Police extends support to GBV victims in Tarlton

The Tarlton Police aims to foster trust and provide crucial support to GBV, domestic violence and human trafficking victims.

Police in Tarlton recently hosted an event in celebration of Mandela Day by giving back to the community, particularly victims of GBV, domestic violence and human trafficking.

According to Sergeant Maggy Malepane, who is also the social crime co-ordinator at the Tarlton Police Station, the event aimed to share with the victims the different kinds of support they can get from stakeholders.

The stakeholders present at the event were the Department of Health, Department of Social Development, Mogale City Public Safety, Crime Prevention Wardens, and others.

Mpolokeng Khambule from the Department of Social Development talked to the victims about what human trafficking is and what it means, the forms of exploitation, how it works, who the traffickers are, the methods they use, and who they can run to for help should they find themselves in these situations. The victims had a chance to have their HIV statuses, diabetes and high blood pressure checked by the Department of Health.

“All the victims were happy with the information they got from the different departments, especially the victims of GBV and domestic violence,” Maggy expressed.

The victims were then given clothes, children’s toys, and many other things. Each of them had to pick something from the clothes which were displayed and they picked as many clothes as they wanted. One of the victims thanked everyone present at the event for reaching out to them.

One hundred victims were reached and catered for at the end of the event which saw Rosaly Farms donating vegetables, Pinocchio butchery donating meat, Exclusive Mineral Water donating 100 still water bottles, and a gazebo donated by Norman’s plot.
