‘No to drugs’ – Burgershoop community

The community of Burgershoop and a local church took it upon itself to bring awareness of drug abuse in the community.

The Glow 4 Jesus Non-Judgemental Church and the community of Burgershoop came out in their numbers to march and bring awareness to drug and substance abuse that plagues the community.

The event was held recently in commemoration of Mandela Month to highlight the power of community outreach by religious organisations.

According to Haleen Treptow, who was among the organisers and a representative of Glow 4 Jesus Church community members, many other organisations and different stakeholders braved the cold conditions to support the cause.

Among other activities held was a soup kitchen for the less fortunate.

“The community joined us in reaching out to the less fortunate children spreading the Gospel giving out food and clothing as well as offering help and support to the addicts in and around Krugersdorp who want to get clean and sober,” Treptow said.

She added that the church opened in March 2022 in the heart of Burgershoop where people of all ages can attend.

“The church regularly makes efforts to improve the community by working with various other community organisations. The church hopes to continue to help vulnerable community members and hopes that residents will assist them in their projects.”
