Acts of compassion at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital

From running a soup kitchen to renovating the casualty and emergency ward, Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital went big on Mandela Day.

Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital recently hosted a charity drive in commemoration of Mandela Day.

The event included a soup kitchen for patients and visitors and grocery packs for the shelter of needy children while the casualty and emergency ward received a much-needed facelift.

According to Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital board chairperson Noluthando Mangole, the purpose of the day was to show compassion to the community and serve by emulating Nelson Mandela’s contribution to South Africa.

Mogale City Local Municipality speaker and councillor Lucky Sele also attended the celebrations and appreciated all efforts.

He also mentioned that choosing a shelter that cares for the unprivileged children was a positive move and Nelson Mandela believed that children are the future.

Renovations are being done in the casualty and emergency wards.

A social worker at the hospital, Karabo Modise, confirmed they worked with various community organisations to make the day possible. One of the organisations they worked with was Mother Charlotte Shelter, which is a place of safety based in Munsieville that is being used by social services departments.

“I appreciate the passion of the shelter because it extends their services to the community at large. In addition to the soup kitchen, grocery items were donated which included basic needs such as non-perishables, sanitary towels, toiletries and school uniforms. As part of the day’s programme, the casualty and emergency department was deep cleaned. I appreciate all those who contributed towards this day,” said the acting CEO of the hospital, Tsebo Litheko.
