Munsieville musician dreams of performing overseas

One of Munsieville's talented musicians is calling on the community to help him go overseas.

Riccardo Hlatshwayo, also known as Mqabuleni, has been making music for a decade and dreams of going overseas but needs a sponsor.

Riccardo said that he has been making music since 2014 when he released his first album, Amagwala, two years later. He added this album contains 10 songs. He also plays guitar, sings, and produces his own music.

“Music is one of my biggest passions in life, the others are acting and drama yet making music is closest to my heart. My music genre is Maskandi traditional and soul includes my songs, Ubuhle Bakho, Khumbul’ekhaya and Ungazodlal Ngami. I have worked with many groups in the music industry of Maskandi music including Abafana Bakamashobane, Bobo Mfana Wepiki and Ithwasa Lendidane,” said Riccardo.

Maskandi is a Zulu folk music style that is supposedly changing with South African society. It was initially connected to migrant labourers.

Riccardo concluded that all his music is available on CD and YouTube.
