Locked up for charity but a donation will help set many free

Dominique Tibbles, founder of the Belly2Brain has locked herself in a cage to raise funds to feed the community.

Founder of the Belly2Brain organisation, Dominique Tibbles, has locked herself in a cage at Cradlestone Mall for 67 hours as part of their Mandela Day initiative.

Dominique said that the goal of this initiative is to raise funds to make peanut butter and jam sandwiches to feed the Mogale City community.

“For many of us, a peanut butter and jam sandwich is a snack but for others, it may be their only meal for the day,” she said.

Last year, Belly2Brain with the support of Cradlestone Mall as their venue sponsor and with donations from patrons of the mall, and volunteers joining in, were able to bless 15 000 souls with a meal. The target this year is 16 000 sarmies.

When the Krugersdorp News visited her, she was locked in a cage at the main entrance to the mall (where the restaurants are located). She said that the experience is great and that people are engaging.

She said that there are also many events that residents can join, including a scarf knitting session, with wool that is donated by PNA, where those scarves will be donated to people in need.

She also said they only received 13 donations on her first day and encouraged residents, and especially corporate businesses to donate.

Belly2Brain is a Section 18A registered organisation and will provide donation certificates to donors who can submit the donation on their 2025 income tax return. Every R100 feeds 48 people a sandwich. You can call Dominique on 074 183 5929 if you would like to donate, or give it at the mall.

“We are also very transparent with our financials to make sure the public knows where the donations are going,” she said.

She wants to thank all the parties involved, who are helping the six beneficiaries. They are The Cradle of Hope, The Bethany House Trust, Glow, Nic Diedrichs Feeding Program, Wings of Inspiration and Grace House Upliftment Centre.
