Princess Levi has become a bright star in the BCI K9 Academy with her touching story of perseverance and dedication.
Krugersdorp News intern and journalist, Neliswa Sibiya visited the academy recently which is situated in Sterkfontein, to spend the day with Princess Levi in her own space.
Princess Levi was born in July 2021 and her parents are K9 Luna and K9 Bakwena, who are also working dogs at the academy. According to her owner, Corinda Loots, Princess Levi has had a tough start to life as she was not breathing at birth.
“She defied the odds as the runt of the litter. I refused to accept defeat and administered CPR until she miraculously began breathing on her own. From that moment on, I knew that Princess Levi was destined for greatness,” Corinda said.
“I remember she had a little white spot on the chin and that is how I recognised her from the litter,” Corinda recalled, demonstrating the unique connection that developed between them right away.
Princess Levi moved into her new home at the age of seven weeks and was welcomed by her mentor and brother Sammy. She gained strength and playfulness under Sammy’s guidance, which prepared her for her future aspirations.
“With both her parents excelling in detection and protection roles, I recognised Princess Levi’s potential for detection work and opted to nurture this aspect while steering clear of the protective instincts,” said Corinda.
She added that Princess Levi started her training in Explosives Detection at the academy in 2023 and is about to graduate, ready to begin her mission to keep communities safe.
“Despite her rigorous training schedule, Princess Levi’s endearing personality leaves a lasting impression wherever she goes, effortlessly stealing the hearts of all who meet her,” Corinda said.
She went on to say that as Princess Levi prepares to step into her role as a valued member of the K9 unit, her story inspires hope and reminds people of the extraordinary potential within every individual, regardless of their beginnings.
