Noordheuwel vet, RandWest SPCA run successful spay outreach

Noordheuwel Animal Clinic does its part in helping the Randwest SPCA during a major spaying drive.

The Noordheuwel Animal Clinic joined hands with the Randwest SPCA to sterilise animals in their care.

“We work closely with the SPCA and try to support them as best we can,” said Dr Johan Ferreira, the vet at the clinic.

He explained the SPCA has an extremely important job in the community and with Krugersdorp’s SPCA closing, they also cover that area but finances are a big concern.

“They work with those who are less fortunate, informal settlements, and stray animals, which is what impacts their finances.”

The sterilisation of animals is extremely important. He described the scenario of one female cat who can have up to 12 kittens and if those kittens have more kittens it can amount to up to 400 cats.

“That is why we try to organise the spay drive and take one week where we sterilise animals from the SPCA to the best of our ability.”

They can spay between 30 to 40 animals at their own cost and in 2023, they also asked their clients to donate toys, leashes, and more which they donated to the SPCA.

“I want to plead with the community to please help the SPCA directly as they do a thankless job,” asked Johan.

Rene van Straten, manager at the Randwest SPCA concluded, “This drive helps a lot. There aren’t enough words to say thank you. It helps both the SPCA as well as the public.”
