Church takes a leap of faith in education

Full Gospel Church Krugersdorp West gives some guidance to the many learners who will be starting a new journey in high school in 2024.

The Full Gospel Church Krugersdorp West has taken it upon itself to reach out to the youth in the community, in particular, the grade sevens who will be taking a major education step in 2024 – that of attending high school.

Many young people have many challenges in life, whether it be academically, socially, or spiritually, however, the Full Gospel Church Krugersdorp West spoke to the grade sevens about several topics that they hope will encourage youngsters to become more responsible and wiser in the long term.

The grade sevens’ blessing ceremony would highlight issues that many learners deal with regularly such as peer pressure, drug use, and academic failure. The blessing ceremony was also a chance to bring awareness to the 16 Days of Activism Campaign to teach young boys to respect all women, young and old.

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign is a United Nations campaign that is held annually from November 25 (International Day for No Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). Other key commemorative days observed annually during these 16 days include World Aids Day on December 1 and International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3.

Pastor Tona Morake advised all youth to stay strong, have faith, and be responsible no matter what challenge arises.

“We hope to guide the youth as they grow into becoming adults. High school is a big step and young people will be exposed to many different ills and problems. We want to give a sense of direction,” pastor Tona said during his service.

The blessing ceremony also saw parents in attendance who were given some advice as their once adorable babies have grown up into teenagers. At the end of the ceremony, the learners were all given a certificate of appreciation for completing primary school.
