Police in festive mood as they donate gifts collected by church

Police received over 500 containers filled with cookies from Suiderlig Church in Krugersdorp West.

The Gauteng Police’s provincial office collaborated with the Krugersdorp Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) and paid a visit to NG Suiderlig Church in West Krugersdorp to show love and donate Christmas gifts to the survivors of sexual abuse.

The commander of the Krugersdorp FCS unit, Lieutenant Colonel Neo Mekgwe, welcomed the good gesture shown by members of the church.

“Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and loving. Many of us will be doing that with our loved ones. It feels so good to see the church doing exactly what is expected of them by God, caring and putting back smiles to the survivors of sexual abuse,” she said. “It is an act of counteracting the abuse of defenceless women and children,” she said.

According to police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, about 500 containers filled with cookies were donated by the church and the Krugersdorp FCS unit will visit and distribute it to survivors of sexual-related offences at different policing precincts.

The unit will visit survivors in areas such as Muldersdrift, Magaliesburg, Kagiso, Hekpoort, Krugersdorp, Randfontein and Tarlton as early as January.
