Wheelie back that bin – no refuse collection in Mogale this week

Municipality confirms refuse removal has been severely affected due to illegal mining activity.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Integrated Waste Management Division confirmed that refuse collection was heavily affected on November 7 due to illegal mining activity.

According to the MCLM communication officer, Refilwe Mahlangu, refuse collection could not be rendered due to illegal mining activity currently endangering workers’ safety at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site. Consequently, security issues of municipal employees are of paramount importance hence security agencies have been requested to assist.

The municipality said illegal mining activity is currently endangering workers’ safety at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site. File photo.

“This prevented municipal trucks from having access to the landfill site to offload waste. Waste Management is currently engaging with the local law enforcement agencies to finalise this issue and resume normal operations.

Normal operations will resume as soon as the site is rendered safe for operations. MCLM will update the public should there be any information for citizens.

“MCLM apologises to residents for this inconvenience and requests patience while the issue is being attended to.”
