Luipaardsvlei elders dress to impress in the name of fundraising

More than 365 women were dressed to the nines in support of a fundraiser for the Luipaardsvlei Home for the Aged held at Silverstar.

The Luipaardsvlei Home for the Aged held a Ladies Morning and fundraiser at Silverstar on October 7 in what can be described as a fun-filled Saturday morning full of delicious delights, entertainment and laughs.

According to facilities manager Miriana de Villiers, the fundraiser was held to assist and improve the services for elders at the old age home.

She said more than 365 women attended the function, looking very extravagant with their dresses and hats throughout the morning. The women in attendance included residents of the elderly home as well as their family and friends.

In addition, prizes were awarded to the three most beautifully dressed women.

Marika Breedt, Sophia Breedt and Corrie du Preez.

The home is based in Lewisham, Krugersdorp, and was established in 1975 as an initiative of the congregation of the local Dutch reformed church which identified the need for a residential facility to help the elderly. The Home is an NPO, offering services to older persons from those who are still able to care for themselves, to bedridden and Alzheimer’s patients.

The women were then spoilt with not only tasty delights but also some amazing live performances by artists Rudi and Karin van Niekerk. There was also a variety of stalls that were selling hand-crafted goods which the women could choose from.

“The Ladies Morning is just one of the many events held to spoil the elders. The elders are kept active through various activities with the aim of helping them with their physical, social, and mental well-being throughout their life course. They are also encouraged to participate in a society with a safe and secure environment. Activities include church services, prayer meetings, concerts, annual talent shows, bingo games, and sports activities such as jukskei,” concluded Miriana.
