Kloof fire leaves devastation in its path

Authorities say everything is under control after a fire broke out in the Kloof in the Rant-en-Dal area.

A devastating fire broke out in Rant-en-Dal this afternoon and unfortunately the residents closest to the Kloof had to pay the price.

The fire spread throught the Kloof quickly leaving at least three houses with terrible fire damage and structures partly burnt down.

Two thatch lapas in First Street also caught fire and burnt down.

Homeowners on the scene were watering their homes with hosepipes, handing out refreshments to first aiders and pitching in to help fight fires that kept on breaking out along the ridge.

The Krugersdorp Fire Department had their hands full as all the fire hydrants in Swallow Street were either not working or so overgrown that a metre deep hole had to be dug to get to them. This seems to stem from a lack of maintenance on Mogale City Local Municipality’s side.

The fire brigade was assisted by the Randfontein fire brigade and Fire Ops SA among others. Several CPF members and other first responders were also on the scene.

At the moment the fire is under control and no serious injuries have been reported.

Those still wanting to assist, drinking water will be a welcoming reprieve for those fighting the fire and assisting on the scene.
