Spring Day fun for the elderly in the CBD

The Krugersdorp Council for the Care of the Aged welcomed spring in great fashion.

On September 1 the elders of the Krugersdorp Council for the Care of the Aged (KCCA) welcomed spring with a bang by having a day full of cheers and laughs.

The KCCA is a ‘day home’ to more than 300 elders. They are a non-governmental organisation, which was founded almost 50 years ago and registered in 2001. It started as a soup kitchen and today the organisation caters to over 300 elderly people who get to relax, watch television, and play cards, and board games like bingo, while others prefer to sit and chat. The council has also arranged various other activities in the past for the elders such as the Annual Golden Games which they love since the competition challenges them to keep their health in check and allows them to have fun while exercising.

The centre has staff members made up of management, admin staff, a chef, kitchen staff, caregivers, a social worker, and a nursing sister to provide necessary home care for the members. There are also many volunteers, who have made a huge difference at the organisation.
