Waiter for a day all for a good cause

St Ursula's Grade 11 learners raised funds for their matric dance in 2024 by being waiters.

The learners of St Ursula’s School recently gathered at a famous steakhouse franchise restaurant in Cradlestone Mall with the hope of raising funds for their matric dance in 2024.

They did this by being waiters and taking orders for a day.

According to St Ursula’s head of academics Reinet Barnard, the “Shadow Shift” programme is where older children can spend an evening shadowing workers to get first-hand on-the-job experience.

“It’s always a great opportunity for the children to get work experience and their families to come out to support them and perhaps enjoy a great meal. The children learnt new skills outside the classroom and the funds raised will go towards their matric farewell,” said Barnard.

She added the learners enjoyed the real-life experience outside the classroom as they learned very important skills such as etiquette, listening skills, and social skills while serving customers. The Spur waiters also enjoyed the fun as they assisted them where they could.
