Youngsters of Kagiso inspired and empowered

A children's wellness day held at Thuto Pele High School empowered and inspired the youth of Kagiso.

Young people of Kagiso were invited to the sports grounds of Thuto Pele Primary School on July 15 to end the school holidays on a positive note and educational spin.

What has been dubbed a Children’s Wellness Day, the intention was to provide youngsters with guidance and wisdom as they return to school this week. The event saw over 100 children on the school grounds who were addressed by the organiser and main speaker David Selemongo.

Throughout his address, David mainly discussed topics such as bullying, drugs and academics. Each topic mainly focused on how children can cope and that they should always be aware of the warning signs if they are to avoid going down the wrong path in life.

”It is important that young people are taught from a young age what is right and wrong,” said David during his address.

Children were also encouraged to speak to the stakeholders, who were available in their stalls, to understand and have access to the tools and services they can use to guide them when they go through their struggles. Among them were West View Clinic, the Ke Moja Drug Awareness programme and the Making Us Youth Organisation.

Disebo Monokwe, Isabella Masango, Senzele Khunene and Kelly Senoko all from West View Clinic, were among the stakeholders.

“In our communities, we have a lot of children who are emotionally, physically and mentally abused by people who are supposed to protect them. With this programme we hope to empower them and provide them with all the help they need to overcome obstacles,” concluded David.
