Residents and the youth of Kagiso made use of their free time at the start of the winter school holiday when they held a holiday programme for the youngsters.
According to Kagiso Extension 2 community leader Philip Mogopodi, the purpose of the holiday programme was to encourage young people to make use of their time by being productive, and active and to prevent them from engaging in bad behaviour during the holidays.
“It’s important to allow your kids to be part of such a holiday programme so they can learn more and gain experience in the field of sports, and engage in indigenous games. It was also educational and motivational for our youth,” he said.
Many children all flocked to the sports grounds to participate in fun activities and sports such as soccer, netball, traditional games such as dibeke and other activities.
The programme was organised by Philip with the help of government stakeholders such as the Departments of Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation, West View Clinic, LifeLine and Kagiso Police Station.
