Man assaults and rapes girlfriend following argument

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who assaulted and raped his girlfriend.

A man from Kagiso has been arrested after he assaulted and raped his injured partner.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said the suspect, aged 41, from extension 4 was arrested on Sunday, March 19.

The victim explained to police that she arrived home from a funeral at about 20:00 on Saturday, March 18, and found that her boyfriend was not home. She then decided to go and look for him at a friend’s house.

When she found him at the friend’s home, she said she explained to him that she is back from the funeral where an argument ensued between the couple.

“The suspect then assaulted the victim and threatened to kill her,” said Captain Sibiya.

They then went home to sleep but when they arrived home her boyfriend continued to assault her and later forced himself on her.

“The victim was injured and she refused to sleep with him but the suspect raped her and continued threatening to kill her.”

She then laid a charge of rape and assault at the Kagiso station and searched for and arrested the boyfriend.

“Anyone who doesn’t understand when a woman says no, but instead responds with violence, will be dealt with accordingly. Gender-based violence has no place in our society,” warned acting Kagiso Police Station Commander, Colonel Peter Mabuso.
