School crime remains a major concern in District

Over 600 learners were searched during the police's visit to St Ansgar’s High School in Muldersdrift.

The Social Crime Prevention and Communication officers from 13 police stations in the West Rand District visited St Ansgar’s High School in Muldersdrift on Wednesday, March 8.

The team was also joined by various stakeholders and included the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Community Policing Forum (CPF), SAPS victim-friendly room (VFR) officers, and community patrollers.

The purpose of the visit was to promote school safety and support teachers to maintain discipline among the learners. More importantly, to also prevent crime on the school premises.
A search was conducted for dangerous weapons, illegal substances such as drugs, alcohol as well as other unauthorised items.

Over 600 learners between grades 8 to 11 were searched and unauthorised items were found and seized.

Among other issues that were highlighted learners were warned about peer pressure, misbehaviour such as bullying, gangsterism, and teenage pregnancy.
The programme concluded with the teachers appreciating the police presence at school. The team further conducted crime prevention at Lindley, Rhinosterpruit, Nooitgedaght, Rietfontein, and Swartkop.
