A group of zama zamas (illegal miners) was arrested following a chase by Mogale City Public Safety and Dowry Security recently.

On the Dowry Security’s Facebook page they said they received a distress call for back up from the Mogale City Public Safety on Wednesday, January 18. The call was in regards to a high risk chase which involved suspects armed with AK47’s.
“On arrival it was discovered that zama zamas were armed when Public Safety tried to intervene in a restoration operation of a site where cables were sabotaged and tampered with.”
The post said a brave and successful chase ensued which involved all parties.

The suspects were apprehended and arrested on scene.
They also thanked everyone that was involved, this included Dowry HRT K9-1NCA, National Crime Assist and Mogale Public Safety. They also thanked the police’s flying squad and K9 unit for their assistance.
