Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) recently assisted with the election of the Policing Business Forum’s (PBF) committee. This means that there is now a voice for business owners when it comes to the safety of their city.
On Monday, November 21 Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Tyroné Gray, MMC councillor Tjaart Steenkamp, the Krugersdorp police and other relevant stakeholders formed the PBF.
Councillor Mark Trump explained that this structure falls under the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and that previously there had not been a voice for the business owners of Mogale City. The structure covers all the businesses that falls under Mogale City including Muldersdrift and Kagiso areas among others.
Business owners can log complaints with the committee about service delivery, crime, other illegal activities, and fundraisers. It also allows small businesses to support one another.
The committee will host quarterly meetings to give feedback as well. Trump said this is a way for businesses to have a direct line to the MCLM and the police as well.
Representatives from the Tower of Life (TOL) Shelter also attended the meeting and Trump explained that this forum can also help to assist the organisation. TOL has a program where they help residents to get odd jobs around town, like being a car guard. Businesses can engage with the organisation when they need day labourers and in that way assist the less fortunate as well.
The elected committee is Danie Riekert, chairperson, Marcos Camacho, vice chairperson, Gillian Jacobs, secretary, Gideon Phiri, treasurer and Lucas Mokgwasa as the public relations officer.
