Man found guilty of tampering with essential infrastructure

A man from Tembisa was found guilty for tampering with essential infrastructure and sentenced to eight years imprisonment.

It’s not only robbers and murderers feeling the pressure from law enforcement – even thieves are being brought to book after a 35-year-old man was convicted of tampering with essential infrastructure, in this case copper cables.

Krugersdorp Police Spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane confirmed that Edmore Molefe from Kanana, Tembisa was found guilty for tampering with essential infrastructure. He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court of which four have been suspended for five years.

Captain Sebonyane said in a statement at about 22:00 on Thursday, February 12, a security officer, Thembekile Mtingane, was on duty at Drill Street in Boltonia guarding Telkom underground copper cables.

“She saw two unknown men trying to steal the cable on the site. She called for backup and only one suspect was apprehended.”

The police were called to the scene and a case of tampering with essential infrastructure was opened.

Detective Constable Deon Baloyi, who investigated the case, made sure that a successful sentence could be handed down.

Brigadier Happy Xaba, the Krugersdorp Police Station Commander applauded Baloyi for a job well done.
