Pageant title-holder opens her heart

“Every child, no matter how small, deserves to grow up with a happy family that wants the best for them” – Miss West Rand 2022.

Miss West Rand 2022, Ashley van den Berg had a busy day recently when she visited two separate organisations to deliver much-needed donations. She visited House Jade in Krugersdorp West as well as Elijah Ministries.

On Friday, July 29 her first stop was House Jade, a home for abandoned babies in Krugersdorp. There she handed over 12 duvets and 10 crochet blankets as well as baby items and treats for the babies.

Ashley said the staff at House Jade was unbelievably welcoming and even showed them all the rooms in the house.

They showed us where the children sleep and where they keep the clothes. Every child has his or her own drawer with their clothes in it. You can see that the staff has a soft spot for the children.”

The donations they handed over were paid for out of their own pockets with a little help from friends.

She said she would definitely be donating to them as they are doing amazing work and also encouraged others to reach out and help House Jade.

“Every child, no matter how small, deserves to grow up with a happy family that wants the best for them.”

Her second stop for the day was at Elijah Ministries where she said she had the privilege of helping Minister Gwen de Beer. She donated men’s and women’s clothes, sanitary items, Bibles and Christian books to the ministry.

Elijah Ministries provides emotional support to people who have been through deep, dramatic trauma. God will always be there even if it may not feel like it.”

Her aunt is the minister there and asked if they could please support them in any way. The ministry works all over South Africa and is in desperate need of clothes for men, women and children who are homeless.
