July statements: Mogale warns residents to expect high bills

Residents should not be shocked by their July billing statements as the new tariffs officially kicked in.

Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has warned residents to prepare for an increase on their July billing statement due to the new tariff increases.

MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu reiterated tariffs for the new financial year commenced on July 1 and were officially implemented on the residents’ 2024 July statement.

“Considering the tariff increases, peak seasonal electricity consumption and the change in electricity tariff structure to the Incline Block Tariff system, bills from this month will be higher than the previous months. Pensioner rebates for qualifying pensioners in the 2024/ 25 financial year have also not been implemented on the current statements, however, implemented on our financial system and will thus reflect on the next bill and future bills,” Mahlangu said.

She added that residents should note that due to technical glitches, some residents were not charged an electricity (fixed) service charge on their current statements.

“This was already revised on our system and the service charge will appear on the next statement,” she concluded.
