Kromdraai powered up

Eskom has electrified more than 260 homes in the Kromdraai area.

In an initiative to help disadvantaged communities, Eskom took to Kromdraai in Muldersdrift to electrify over 267 homes in Portion 26 which is an informal settlement.

Taking part in the project was Mogale City officials along with Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

According to Eskom Gauteng spokesperson Amanda Qithi, this formed part of their commitment to expand access to electricity to communities.

“This project is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for South Africans in the Gauteng province by providing reliable and safe electricity. Eskom continues to enable Gauteng’s economic and social development through electricity provision. Since the beginning of the electrification programme, Eskom has electrified over seven million homes with Gauteng accounting for more than 500 000 households. Eskom’s electrification programme aligns with the government’s goal of achieving universal access to electricity for all South Africans.”

According to Lesufi, the electrification of these homes not only enhances residents’ dignity and quality of life but also fosters economic development within the community.

He added access to electricity supports educational opportunities and small business activities, contributing to the overall growth and development of the area.

“In providing electricity, Eskom contributes to environmental sustainability and promotes responsible energy usage.”

Qithi concluded that Eskom remains dedicated to its mission of powering the nation and ensuring that all South Africans have access to electricity.

“We extend our gratitude to the local community, Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Mogale City Local Municipality Executive Mayor councillor Danny Molefi Thupane, ward councillor Gwen Britz and all stakeholders who have supported this initiative.”
