Street in Munsieville flooded with sewage

A street overflowing with sewage for more than a year is finally getting the necessary attention.

Residents of Kamogelo Street in Munsieville expressed concerns about poor waste management and sanitation, citing an overflowing sewer.

Lindokuhle Phamela, who lives right next to the sewer, said sewage has been flowing into the street for more than a year. They also have to use rocks to cross over the wastewater.

“There are flies in my house because of this drain. The smell is just unbearable no matter how many times I clean my house,” she said.

The problem not only affects residents walking around but even motorists. Resident Moses Maphosa is pleading for this problem to be fixed.

Parents say that they are concerned about their children’s health as youngsters play in the contaminated water – an environment for the spread of diseases.

Maphosa and Phamela say that they have tried to get help from the municipality but they have not yet received any assistance. They resorted to taking the matter to social media with the hopes of getting help.

Although residents believe their pleas have gone unheard, the Krugersdorp News contacted ward councillor Moagaesi Mosala, who confirmed that the issue has been reported to him and is being addressed.

“I met with the municipal contractors on March 6 and took them to the site and the contractor is currently working on the drain as we speak,” Mosala concluded.
