Smooth water? No water!

It seems the water crisis in parts of Mogale City remains unresolved as numerous residents have reported that they either have no water or only a trickle for a short period.

Following articles published by the News on Friday, September 23 and on the front page of its September 30 edition, the publication has been made aware that water has not been restored to all parts of Mogale City.

According to a Mogale City Local Municipality statement issued by the office of its Executive Mayor and titled Joy as water in Munsieville and surrounds restored water was finally restored in Munsieville, Dan Pienaarville and previously affected areas of Noordheuwel after those areas had been without it for more than 25 days.

“Burdened by weeks of a water supply interruption as the Rand Water reservoir in Krugersdorp has not been able to fill up to required levels due to load-shedding, Mogale City’s Water Services and our bulk water supplier have finally got the Munsieville reservoir 100% filled up, aiding pressure flow to reach households. The reservoir outlet was officially opened today by Executive Mayor, Cllr Tyrone Gray and MMC for Utilities Management Mr Kagiso Lekagane,” read the statement.

Although residents the News spoke to did verify that their water had returned, the publication has since learned that water had not returned to all areas and where the water did return the pressure is ‘laughable’, as one resident puts it.

The News reached out to MCLM for an update on the water issue but no feedback has been received yet.

The publication has received emails about the issue from numerous disgruntled residents.

Alex Kucharski: “Just a quick response to the water issue. I don’t believe that the problem has been resolved as there are parts of Noordheuwel that are still without water for the majority of the day. It was back to normal on the morning of the 24th but the situation worsened again during that day.

Water is still out at our house for the most part – there is some in the mornings but the pressure is low and then no water for the remainder of the day. It has gotten better but certainly not back to normal yet.”

Kurt Nagel: “We only occasionally get a little bit of water around 05:00 but it fizzles out by 07:00”.

Adrian Erasmus: “On the 23 September, an article was published by your paper that water supply has been restored in Krugersdorp. I would like to categorically state that this is not true. We live on top of the koppie near the cell phone tower that looks like a tree. We are on DAY 17 WITHOUT water and we are not the only ones. The water supply HAS NOT been restored. Please can you investigate this matter and try to advise the residents. We are getting NO feedback from the municipality. I am sure I am not alone when I say that we feel let down by the municipality.”

Lynette (a very unhappy resident of our dry town): “In response to your article about the water, our water has never returned to even nearly normal.

We have some water through the night and by 10:00 taps are dry till 22:00 when the trickle starts up, but there doesn’t seem to be a solution to the problem because I don’t think anyone knows what the problem is or how to fix it.”

Drieka Davis: “Your article in the Krugersdorp News re In smooth water again is a total LIE. We in Dan Pienaarville STILL do not have water to shower or use washing machines. Our councillor keeps on reporting the problem but it has been since 3 September 2022 that we do NOT have water. Water trucks are supplied, but not everyone has transport to get water from the truck.

We are paying for a service which we are NOT receiving. We are living like dogs. Between the Mayor, Rand Water and the councillor we do not get concrete reasons or answers to the water shortage.

“The Mayor is not responding after several requests from the residents to meet with him to get answers! Please make sure of your FACTS before writing an article with nonsense in it.”

News journalist, Natasha Pretorius also received several calls about the article and the fact that water has not been restored completely.
