Mogale water crisis: Munsieville reservoir is receiving water – at last

Manager for Utilities Management Services said the Munsieville reservoir was receiving water and the levels of the Rand Water reservoir also improved.

In a recent update about the water crisis in Mogale City, the Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) Utilities Management Services water team said the Munsieville reservoir was receiving water.

The levels of the Rand Water reservoir have also improved and all other related technical work has been performed.

MCLM is, however, appealing to the community to use water sparingly to allow the network to fill up as they are still struggling with load-shedding.

When the Munsieville community protested on Wednesday, September 22 after being without water for 25 days, the MCLM Executive Mayor, Councillor Tyrone Gray met with them for a second time.

A statement from Mayoral spokesperson Phemelo Motoma said apart from calling for peaceful protests, the engagement from the mayor was also to give an update in relation to the water interruption. MCLM has been working with Rand Water around the clock to restore water to the affected areas of Munsieville, Rant-en-Dal and parts of Noordheuwel.

Part of the feedback was the difficulty Rand Water experienced to pump water into the low water level reservoirs consistently due to the ongoing power cuts by Eskom, adversely affecting efforts to restore water in Munsieville and some parts of Dan Pienaarville.”

The municipality also purchased and installed a booster pump to assist with the water pressure at this reservoir. The mayor appealed to Eskom to allow City Power to isolate the Roodepoort Rand Water pump station from load-shedding.

Uninterrupted electricity will allow enough water to be pumped into the Krugersdorp reservoirs and enable water supply to the affected areas.

“In escalating the matter, the office of the Executive Mayor will also be engaging the offices of both the Minister of Public Enterprise and Water and Sanitation respectively to assist with getting Eskom to accede what is a reasonable request.”
